The Community Opinions Are Flooding In After 24 Hours

Paralives has been anticipated for YEARS and I think we always knew the first 24 hours were going to be a little emotional. In light of that, I've made this post to create a safe space for us to discuss and do a community check in now that the game has been officially released for Early Access!

With all of the buzz online, I've seen everything! From some players spending hours playing the game; to other players having so many bugs that they... (instead) returned the game within hours.

Paralives the office meme there is a conference room meeting now!

The Overall Mood Right Now

The game is finally here and the community reaction has been exactly what you would expect from a major life sim launch: excited, overwhelmed, hopeful, critical, curious, impressed and... unimpressed. I'd say from what I have seen in the Paralives Facebook, Tumblr, and Reddit Communities is that public opinion right now is pretty split. Some players are completely falling in love with the creative freedom and the games' atmosphere, while others are feeling unsure about certain gameplay aspects, performance issues, or whether the game currently has enough depth for its Early Access release.

Despite this... one thing that does feel consistent is that people genuinely want to talk about the game. Everywhere you look, players are sharing screenshots, discussing bugs & performance issues, or simply seem to be trying to process if their years of anticipation meet their current expectations for the release.

The Concerns Are Starting To Surface

And tbh Acronym: To Be Honest , they are valid.

The most interesting part of it all is how the community is handling it. I can definitely say from my own personal experience as someone who has been around life simulation communities for a while now, it's important to know where you have a safe space to share your opinions. Sometimes gaming communities can accidentally drift into extremes where people feel pressured not to voice anything that could be seen as “negative” under the guise of a game being in Early Access or being an Indie title. Or... where every conversation becomes a constant comparison to another game and turns into blind criticism without any real constructive feedback behind it. But realistically, my belief is that you can enjoy parts of Paralives while also feeling unsure about other areas. Both things can exist at the same time and as long as you have a safe space to productively share that; the game developers may actually find that kind of feedback more valuable than anything else.

So while I obviously can’t speak for every space online, I am offering you a safe space here to offer constructive criticism without fear of being torn down. I want our little corner of the community to feel welcoming for honest and constructive conversations; whether you're completely obsessed with Paralives already, or have considered returning the game due to gameplay issues.

So What Are The Concerns

Right now the two biggest community concerns seem to be: the lack of storytelling depth within the gameplay and performance issues causing crashes... even on some newer computers! As for me, I'll have to keep you updated on that bestie, because while I have purchased and downloaded the game I have not played it on my new computer yet.

Even still, A lot of players seem to love the creativity and charm Paralives already offers, but some are still searching for those deeper "life" aspects that actually make a game a "life-sim" game. The people want Paralives to succeed, but not at the expense of ignoring valid concerns and only developing the game based on blind praises. I will add that from my own personal experience (at least thus far) I don't think this will be much of a concern, as the Paralives team has shown a track record of taking feedback and fixing pertinent issues where they can. In fact, even as early as a few days ago they observed a YouTubers video about having accessibility issues and implemented a fix right away. How cool is that?!

The Biggest Things Players Seem To Love

Even with the concerns currently floating around the community, there are also a few areas where players seem genuinely impressed, specifically when it comes to the games tools for building and expressing creativity through decorating!

I’ve already seen players posting screenshots of their builds, uploading lots to the Steam Workshop, and producing mods... with there now being over 2,000 mods on the Steam Workshop already! That alone says a lot about how quickly the creative side of the community has jumped into Paralives and as a life-sim gamer focusing on builds, myself, I couldn't be more excited about that.

While on the gameplay side of things, as I've mentioned previously, storytelling players who focus more on the life simulation aspects haven’t been as impressed with the current depth of gameplay. However, many of them do seem to be loving ParaMaker Paralives’ character creation tool and appear more focused on the future potential of how the Paralives team could improve the life-sim aspect over time.

Maybe The Most Important Part Is This...

I agree with some of the criticism currently being shared about gameplay depth, storytelling, and technical issues, but I also agree that we have to give it more time. Right now, the life simulation community seems very desperate for a new game to replace The Sims franchise; and unfortunately, for some life sims like InZOI, those constant comparisons and overwhelming expectations almost seemed to become part of their downfall before the game(s) even had room to fully breathe and develop. But regardless of where people currently stand, Paralives has people talking... and in a life simulation genre where many players have been craving something fresh for years, that alone feels pretty significant.

So friend, I’m curious...

How are you feeling about Paralives so far?
